C25K – What do we need to do ?
Congratulations , you’re nearly there!! You may be starting to wonder how does Parkrun work, what do I need to do to prepare, and the biggest question …….. is there life after C25K? Please read on and I hope your questions will be answered.
Preparation
ð Register for Parkrun – link HERE
ð Screenshot (if you run with your phone) or print off your barcode as you’ll need it at the end of the run to register your time.
ð Consider downloading the ‘5K’ App as there is no specific ‘Parkrun’ app. The 5K app contains your barcode and tracks all your future Parkruns!
On The Day
ð The event starts at 0900; Mia will be at the Telford Town Park Visitors Centre from 08:30am – link: HERE. You can leave kit at the meeting point as someone will be there throughout.
The Parkrun Itself
You will all start together and there will be BroJo Club Members available to run with you if you wish. The course is 5km around the town park and Silkin Way. It is 2 laps and is mostly flat and the paths are all good surfaces.
When you come to the finish area, you will be funnelled across the finishing line. After finishing you will be handed a Parkrun token which you will need to present to the timekeepers, along with your barcode, at the end of the funnel.
After the Run
After everyone has finished, we will have a ‘Graduation Ceremony’ where certificates will be presented, and a celebratory drink will be available! We will also take a group photo to record your achievement for posterity …. and future BroJo advertising 😊.
And then what ……………………………
There is one option we hope you don’t choose – the 5K2C. Please don’t waste all your great work over the past 2-months; please do something to maintain your fitness and preferably improve upon it!
Post Parkrun Options
After Parkrun graduation, we will be running four additional C25K ‘transition sessions’ from the Library whilst the main BroJo Club Runs operate from down in the valley. So what are your options:
– You may choose to stop running but use your improved fitness as a stepping stone to some other activity; walking the dog, playing with the kids / grandchildren, cycling to work (and back again which might be the challenge!).
– You may be ready to transition straight across to Club Runs and Mia will be able to advise you if this step is appropriate. The Club Runs take place every Tuesday and Thursday at 6.30pm from the Iron Bridge car park until the end of the month when they will transition back to the Library Car Park.
– Finally, you’ve seen the benefits of being part of a group, how we all work together and support each other, but you may not feel confident in moving straight to a Club Run. This is where the ‘transition sessions’ may help. These will be run on Tuesday and Thursdays at 6.30pm from the Library Car Park.
If you do elect to join the Club, and we hope you do, you are not required to come to every session – most members don’t. As a member of the club, you will be provided a minimum of two guided running sessions per week appropriate for your running ability. Club Runs accommodate all ability levels with the stronger runners looping around the main group. NOBODY IS TOO SLOW FOR A CLUB RUN!
Informal social runs are also regularly arranged on Sunday mornings.
The club has an active social programme that includes monthly pub nights and a number of other events throughout the year. It is a great way to widen your social circle and explore new areas around the town and surrounding countryside.
Finally, congratulations to you all on sticking the course and achieving something significant and memorable before 10am on a Saturday morning!
