Broseley Joggers Couch to 5k

When and where?

Our next Couch to 5K (C25k) is tbc.

To find out how to join the Broseley Joggers Couch to 5k and register your interest, just scroll down to the bottom of this page.

The programme consists of two sessions per week over a period of 10 weeks, during which we will gradually build up our ability to go from walking to running.

We meet at the Broseley Library car park every Tuesday and Thursday at 6.30 pm. You will be supported in every session by our run leaders and experienced runners from the club.

Our aim is to celebrate the completion of the programme by doing the Telford Parkrun.

So what do I need?

Knowing what to wear needn’t be complicated. Just use these two guiding principles and you’ll be fine; find something that is comfortable and fit for purpose. It doesn’t need to be expensive high tech gear.

So make sure you have a comfortable pair of shoes to begin with. You can find real bargains or super expensive, but as a rule of thumb they say you can find decent pairs for around £20-£40. If you easily get blisters then getting a pair of running socks may be wise.

In terms of clothing, you just need something loose and comfortable in a breathable material. Women should also consider using a sports bra, which is sturdier than a regular bra and provides additional support.

As we are out in the evenings it’s advisable to wear some high visibility clothing or, even better, something reflective. We tend to run where there are street lights but earlier on in the programme you may still benefit from carrying a torch in case the light isn’t very good.

What should I do to prepare for each session?

You don’t need to warm up before as we’ll do that together at the start of each session.

It’s important to have energy for your run, but don’t overdo it. If you need something just before running then maybe have a light snack such as a banana. If you’ve had a large meal then it’s advisable to wait two hours before going for a run.

As long as you are drinking enough throughout the day then keeping hydrated should not be a problem. Some people like to have a water bottle with them while running. If you’re thirsty, drink – just not too much.

We run in all weather but there are times when the weather is too extreme even for us. If we find that it will not be safe to go ahead with a session, for example in icy conditions or if there is thunder and lightning, then we will announce this as soon as we can on our Facebook group ‘Broseley Joggers C25K‘.

If you haven’t already joined that group then we encourage you to as that’s where you will receive the most immediate updates. It is also a good place to socialise between the sessions, sharing your trials and tribulations as you work towards your goal of completing a 5K.

Now what?

Joining the C25K is easy! Just contact us via email (broseleyjoggers@hotmail.com) or via our C25K Facebook page to express your interest along with your name, email, phone number and age. We will confirm via email once we have added your name to the list. If we find that the group is full then we will inform you of this and ask if you want your name to be added to a waiting list in case someone ends up dropping out early on.

Once your place on the C25K register has been confirmed then you will need to complete a membership application form and bring this to one of the run leaders for the first session. The membership application form can be downloaded via the two links below:
